Alan,
My wife and I birded the Vancouver Lake Lowlands and Ridgefield N.W.R.
River "S" Unit today (March 28), here are the highlights of what we
found.

Ridgefield N.W.R. River "S" Unit:
2 CINNAMON TEAL in the first pond on your left after the restrooms near
the entrance.
In Rest Lake, from the Observation Blind parking lot, 2 CANVASBACKS and 6
RUDDY DUCKS.
1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS just before the Observation Blind where there is a
pull-off under a lone tree.
WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES calling from the Oregon Ash trees at the
Observation Blind parking lot.
Many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS at the Observation Blind parking lot.
2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS in the blackberries along the dike after you pass
Rest Lake (the last pond on the Auto Tour Route).

Vancouver Lake:
13 WESTERN GREBES at the Vancouver Lake Flushing Channel.
4 GREAT EGRETS one at the first pond along State Route 503 after the
Fruit Valley Road traffic light, the others were in Shillapoo Lake
farther out 503 past Vancouver Lake Park.
4 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE along Lower River Road just past the Fazio
Brothers Sand Operation.
1 blue-morph ROSS' GOOSE in with the cackling Canada Geese at Shillapoo
Lake at the end of Highway 503. This is the third blue-morph Ross' Goose
that I have seen in the Lowlands.
2 EURASIAN WIGEON in Post Office Lake near the end of Lower River Road.
1 OSPREY on the pilings in the Columbia River off of Post Office Lake.
1 WHITE-TAILED KITE over the drained Shillapoo Lake bed.
6 BALD EAGLES scattered throughout the Lowlands.
1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK at Vancouver Lake County Park.
150 SANDHILL CRANES most of them were in Shillapoo Lake and about 10 were
at Post Office Lake.
3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS at Post Office Lake.
1 HARRIS SPARROW still present at the birdseed chum spot on Old Lower
River Road. Exit 503 (Lower River Road) onto Old Lower River Road where
you see a large sign with a big "E" on it for Evergreen Aluminum, go to
the stop sign and turn left, the sparrow hangs out in the patch of wild
roses at the intersection. We sprinkled more seed along the road beneath
the "No Trespassing" sign where the bird was feeding out in the open
today.
