I have been birding with Darryl twice and will never forget either
experience. He knew his stuff like few other. He will be missed.

Today our birding community here in the Northwest, lost a great birder
and a friend to many of us, particularly at Pilchuck Audubon. W. Darryl
Thompson died this morning after a long battle with a terrible
debilitating lung disease. Anyone who ever met Darryl will certainly
remember him as he was always a "larger then life" person (or
character). He was never boring and often controversial. He provided
many years of leadership at Pilchuck Audubon as well as serving in many
capacities in bird conservation before that.
His family is planning a memorial service but we at PAS do not have any
details yet. We will have information on our Website
www.pilchuckaudubon.org . In addition PAS had already scheduled The
Second Annual Darryl Thompson Birding Week June 6 - 14. Again we will
have information about that on our website too. Darryl's wife Mary has
requested that in lieu of flowers that donations can be made to Pilchuck
Audubon
1803 Hewitt Ave #108
Everett, WA 98201.
Darryl will be greatly missed by me personally and his many friends.
