Birded with Roger Orness Sat. in Lewis Co. Spent most of the day on the
back roads west of I-5 with the last part of the day along Lincoln Creek and
Pleasant Valley. Although we weren't trying for any big numbers we did ID
65 species. Highlights are listed below. Seems like Hutton's Vireos were
busy calling. We had 1 at Ike Kinswa State Park on Mayfield Lake near the
restrooms, also a calling bird just west of the Centralia Steam Plant along
with 2 Greater Yellowlegs and an Eurasian Wigeon. The last 2 were not
vocal, but spotted in large Douglas Fir trees east of the Centralia Steam
Plant while looking at our last White-tailed Kite of the day. We had 5
Kites plus Roger saw an additional one before we meet.

Several Turkey Vultures--Cowlitz River drainage and just north of Mossy Rock
one Eurasian Wigeon
several Osprey
one Virginia Rail-Lincoln Creek
two Greater Yellowlegs
seven Wilson's Snipe--east of Centralia Steam Plant
six Rufous Hummingbirds (some heard only)
two Pileated Woodpeckers
four Hutton's Vireos
Western Scrub-Jays everywhere--10 years ago they weren't this common
2-3 Brown Creepers at Ike Kinsma State Park
one calling Savannah Sparrow
