Tweeters,

This week was spring break for the EWU kids, so I decided to do some birding.

On Wednesday (3-26) I birded the Couer D'Alene area and was unable to find any unusual gulls down on the city waterfront. I did pick out a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on the Spokane River in front of NIC. Also of note, there were several WOOD DUCKS in Cougar Bay.

On Friday (3-28) my mother and I birded the Othello area looking mainly for cranes. We were able to find around 2000 SANDHILL CRANES on Corfu Road. There were also a few scattered in the corn fields along Highway 26 west of town. Below are the other highlights of this trip.

Chukar - A pair seen on Gillis Road.

Golden Eagle - One immature along Gillis Road.

Greater White-fronted Goose - Three adults at the Para Ponds.

Snow Goose - At least three at the Para Ponds, a fourth white goose with the trio may have been a Ross's Goose, but I was unable to get a good enough look to determine whether it was one.
