Hi Everyone--

Marcia Marvin and I checked out the Vancouver lake Lowlands today, mainly
looking for geese and sparrows. We did not see the Harris's Sparrow today,
but at Vancouver lake Park, the seed pile by the bathroom was visited by a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (now in freshwhite-stripe plumage), two SOOTY FOX
SPARROWS, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, SPOTTED TOWHEES, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS,
and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD visited the
flowering redcurrent bushes on the east side of the bathroom. Farther north
at Shillapoo Lake, a flock of CANADA GEESE contained one odd individual, a
Dusky-type with all-white face, pink bill, and orange legs. We saw no white
or blue geese. Lots of BALD EAGLES soaring around, at least 5 different
birds (a near adult with a black wedge in the tail was seen both at
Shillapoo and at the WPA substation). In the slough north of the south end
of Old Lower River Road, we saw 5 CINNAMON TEAL, and overhead we watched a
TURKEY VULTURE, our first for Washington this year.
