While at work on Sat. I flushed a snipe while driving by in my backhoe. I
was VERY surprised to see one where I am because the habitat didn't fit the
snipes' preferences. I also on Sat. and Sun. drove literally a foot away
from a male red-breasted sapsucker. I was going back and forth for topsoil
and I passed this tree everytime no more than a foot away from my backhoe
tire and the little guy just sat there watching me. He was about 2 feet off
the ground. I actually stopped twice to watch him and he didn't budge. So
cool to see one up close. I could see his grid of holes he made with the sap
oozing out. :)
