This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Wednesday,
April 30th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare Bird Alert for a SNOWY PLOVER.

Birders are reminded that May's VNHS Birder's Night is on May 8th not May
1st.

Sightings for Wednesday, April 30

The SNOWY PLOVER was reported from the south side of the base of the
Robertson Jetty on the morning tide and around 5:00 in the evening before
being scared off by a Northern Harrier.

At Blackie Spit were 4 WHIMBREL, 3 MARBLED GODWIT and 3 PURPLE MARTINS.

Tuesday, April 29

A SNOWY PLOVER was seen in the early evening near the base of the Roberts
Bank Jetty from the south side.

Out in Pitt Meadows on Rennie Rd. between Grant Narrows RP and the woodlot
south of this location was a VESPER SPARROW. Also at this location was a
SORA.

An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was near the Horizons Restaurant at Burnaby Mtn. Park.
Also reported from here were 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES.

Seven PURPLE MARTINS were observed at the Maplewood CA.

A female PURPLE MARTIN was seen at Blackie Spit. Also reported from Blackie
Spit were 3 WHIMBREL and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW.

At Gilbert Beach in Richmond were 8 WHIMBREL.

Monday, April 28

Three AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were seen on the east side of Blackie Spit
with a flock of Western Sandpipers. At the mouth of the Nicomecl River on
the north shore was a RED KNOT.

At 104th on Boundary Bay was a LONG-BILLED CURLEW.

The WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was again observed at Burnaby Mtn. Park.

Another WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen at Reifel along with the female
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.

Two TURKEY VULTURES were sighted at Rocky Point Park.
