BANDING REPORT- Neawanna Wetland Preserve
May 1, 2003

Method: Up to eight 9m mist nets are placed in mixed Oregon
Crabapple/Twinberry/Spruce along the the upper Neawanna River,
Seaside, Clatsop Co. OR. Captured birds are measured, ringed
with USBBL numbered metal bands and released. Data on time of
capture and side of net captured are also recorded to gain
an understanding of movements through the area.

Notes: For the first time ever at the Neawanna and only the second
time since I started banding, we got shut out, 3 hours and not a
single capture. Using date beginning in 1989 and going to 2002, the
average for the window of Apr 26 to May 5 is 0.9 birds/nethr (about
30 birds adjusted to a 4 hour-8 net morning).

What's going on? I don't know. But it would appear that the
migration is hung up somewhere further south at least here on the
coast.
