Some days are just worth getting up for! Early this morning, a pair of
California Quail wandered into our feeding area (usually regularly visited by
several pair of Mallards, a pair of Mourning Doves, and assorted sparrows,
towhees and juncos), and then the fun began: before 7:00 a.m., we had some
overhead visitors (Canada Geese, Great Blue Heron), then a few overnight
drop-ins ( Golden-crowned Sparrows and a Wilson's Warbler ), and Betty heard
some Red Crossbills and our Evening Grosbeaks before our residential pair of
Purple Finches showed up before the expected House Finches. The
Black-throated-Gray Warbler has been singing in the "back forty" (behind the
house!) and so we were especially pleased to see coming from the same
direction our occasionally visiting Pileated Woodpecker!
