While visiting family in Bremerton today I had a chance to check out the
Pelagic cormorant colony at the Warren Avenue bridge. If you've been
thinking to yourself you ought to see it someday, now is the time! There
are probably 50 pairs of birds roosting amid the bridge girders, and some of
them appear to have young currently, although due to today's overcast and
glare conditions it was kind of hard to tell, even w/a scope. We were in
the area in the mid-afternoon, and many cormorants were active then. It was
wonderful to see the iridescence on their neck and back and the conspicuous
white patches toward their rump as they flew by.

The best place to see the colony is in a little park at the end of Elizabeth
Ave, just past 17th St. A stairway takes you down to the park, which is
right on the water and almost but not quite underneath the bridge. In
addition to the Pelagic Cormorants you may see Bald Eagles, Belted
Kingfishers, Pigeon Guillemots, gulls...
