Greetings Tweeters,

I took some brief birding trips on Saturday and Sunday morning. On Saturday morning, I ran into a group of birders at Vance Creek County Park and then again along Wenzel Slough Rd.. They were from the Tacoma area and I forget now who it was led by but I did get to meet Rolan Nelson who was part of the group. I can't wait to hear what that group saw this weekend since they were headed for the coast all weekend. Anyways, onto the birds...I recorded a couple new arrivals around Elma this weekend. Saturday, I spotted a Wilson's Warbler along the eastern portion of Wenzel Slough Rd.. This morning, I observed several warblers at Vance Creek County Park including Yellow-rumped Warblers (both Audubon's and Myrtle), Orange-crowned Warblers, and finally I had my first record of the year for a Yellow Warbler. The Yellow was spectacular with its bright yellow body and the red streaking on its breast.

Also, at Vance Creek this morning I was delighted to see an adult Green Heron on one of the formerly hidden ponds near the highway. I had two Green Herons last year in the same location and I've been looking for them this year and finally found at least one. Happy birding!
