First off, I have to say, I am not making this stuff up. This owl is really
doing these things. Last night, we had a community campfire, and after the
hotdog and marshmallow kids phase, the adult, beer and story phase started.
Then the guitars and a drum came out. Almost immediately after we began
playing some music, George, who was perched in the dark quite close by,
startled and delighted us with his odd, HoooooWaaakk call. We all stopped
playing to listen. He stopped. We started. He started. We played for about
10 minutes, jamming along with our neighborhood owl who would call quite
regularly, adding his odd vocalization to ours. We stopped for about 10
minutes, George took a break too. I really wished I could have recorded it,
it was really really cool. We started back up again but George either left
during the break or just wanted to listen.

I recovered one of Georges Pellets the other day. When I took it apart it
was largely Beetle exoskeletons, the big carabidae ones that run around at
night. My compost pile is full of these things and so too, apparently is
George. Seems like an odd thing for a owl to live off though.
