We took off Friday evening to explore some S.E. Washington vagrant traps. Let me say that the leading edge of migration has rolled over us in Southeast Washington. We camped out Friday night near Windust Park along the Snake River in S.E. Franklin Co.. On our way into the park we passed a 18 inch Western Rattlesnake and a 24 inch Western Gopher Snake warming on the road. Both were left in the dark very much alive, but off the road. We started birding at Windust at 0615 hrs and the place was cool, rainy just ideal to look for migrants.

If you get a chance to bird here DO NOT miss the street with the Post Office on it! Every other tree is an ornamental plum and they are covered with aphids.Warblers and sparrows are crawling all over these trees feeding on the aphids.
