Sightings for May 5

A FOX SPARROW was along the Okanagan River Channel S. of the Ok Falls
Campground (CC).

Along the W. dyke S. of the bridge on Rd 22 was a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, a
WESTERN TANAGER and a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE (CC). Two more GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS were in Shannon Lake Regional Park, in Westbank (MF).

Two SANDHILL CRANES were along the W. dyke, N. of Road 22 (CC).

A singing male BREWER'S SPARROW was at White Lake, near Ok Falls (CC).


Sightings for May 4

In Kelowna, a pair of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were on Okanagan Lake at
Sutherland Park, in the North End of town (GW).

At least one GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was at Munson's Pond, in Kelowna, with
large flocks of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS (CC,CoC,HV). GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS
were also reported along Beaver Lake Road, E. of Winfield (TF).

At Robert Lake in Kelowna, a single SANDHILL CRANE was with CANADA GEESE in
the fields on the far side of the lake (CC,CoC,GW).

An early CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was singing at the corner of Bench Row Road
and Commonage Road on the Vernon Commonage (CC,CoC). Also in Vernon, a
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and 2 COMMON TERNS were on Swan Lake (PM). The
season's first WESTERN TANAGER was also reported in Vernon (PM).

With the arrival of a cold front large numbers of migrants were noted
throughout the valley. Large movements of HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHERS and
NASHVILLE WARBLERS were especially evident (m.ob).

A singing male TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was seen in Shannon Lk Park, in Westbank
(MF).


Sightings for May 3

Seen from the viewing platform near Christmas Island on the Salmon Arm
Foreshore was a CLARK'S GREBE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE (DC).

A male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Holiday Park on the N.
shore of Duck Lake, in Kelowna (JM).

Flying N. in the late afternoon over the N. end of Penticton were 11
SANDHILL CRANES (CC,MF,RT).

Two BONAPARTE'S GULLS, an adult and a first year, were seen from the viewing
platform at Vaseux Lake (CC,MF,RT).

Large numbers of migrants were noted along the Okanagan River Channel, S. of
Ok Falls Campground. Migrant flocks included 11 HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHERS, 5
DUSKY FLYCATCHERS, a male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, 32 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, 18
NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 5 WILSON'S WARBLERS, 5 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 2
WARBLING VIREOS and 64 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS (CC,MF,RT).

A heavy movement of VAUX'S SWIFTS was noted throughout the valley today,
with over 100 noted in the Okanagan Falls region alone (CC,MF,RT). Some were
also at Gellatly Bay in Westbank (EF).

The male GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was again at Scandia Golf and Games along Hwy
97 N. in Kelowna (CC).
