I spent about 30 minutes doing a quick walk around China Lake Park off S.
19th St. in Tacoma around noon today and saw my first local WESTERN
TANANGER of the season sitting near the top of a fir tree right before I
was going to leave the area. Very few other highlights for the site
today, but I was there at just about the worst possible time for bird
activity. Other than the usual suspects, I just barely caught a glimpse
of some ducklings scrambling into the brush in the main lake. I also
tried to watch a SWAINSON'S THRUSH through the brush, just seeing enough
to make an ID, and right until I left the park a male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD
was sitting guard at the very top of a young Douglas Fir. I saw no
warblers during the noon hour...maybe later this afternoon when I return
to the area.

Closer to home, I still see the occasional male Anna's Hummingbird coming
to my feeders, interspersed now and then with male and female RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD...

Happy birding!
