Dear Tweeters, Is it a bit early for robin fledglings? I saw one on Cockreham Island, Skagit County, yestereen. It had a short tail, a flecked reddish breast, and prominent white about the eye. Despite the short tail, the bird flew pretty well. At the recently ploughed fields and the wetlands by State Highway 20, mile marker 76, there were some interesting birds. Seven WHIMBREL and about 30 PEEPS foraged with a couple of Killdeer. The peeps were calling "Kreee!" but I cannot remember which one says that. A SORA and a VIRGINIA RAIL were calling from the wetland by the highway, although traffic noise drowned them out sometimes. A dozen Canada Geese are still visiting this area, although there are very few ducks remaining.
