Hello Tweets,

Yesterday Mike Donahue and I spent a couple of hours (10:20- 2:00ish) at the Ocean Shores jetty- nothing too out of the ordinary, but these were the highlights:

Shearwater sp: at least 200 well offshore; those swinging in close enough were Sooty Shearwaters

Surf Scoter: 300+; large numbers constantly about

Bonaparte's Gull: 15-20; several were in crisp alternative plumage

Black-legged Kittiwake: 60+; most of these were well out, but there were several at the end of the jetty and two immature birds feeding in the surf right near the beach nearly the entire time we were there.

Common Tern: 16; feeding near shore in the surf.

Parasitic Jaeger: 3; 2 adults, one immature, all chasing kittiwakes or Bonaparte's.

Tufted Puffin: 1; feeding with a large raft of Rhinoceros Auklets toward the Westport jetty.

Wandering Tattler: 20; all along the jetty

Surfbird: 2; one in nice alternative plumage

Ruddy Turnstone: 1; near the end of the jetty

Red-necked Phalarope: 32; well out

Non-birds:

Gray Whale- what appeared to be a mother and calf feed and played in the shallows next the jetty almost until 1:00ish- They skyhopped, showed flukes and tails, and gave great views- quite a sight!

Lastly, I had a Western Scrub-Jay near the southwest corner of Volunteer Park near 6:45 pm. It called frequently and was easy to locate.
