While corvids seem to be among the most dedicated nest/nestling predators
the thrushes also have a few tricks

Yesterday at the Elwha River Fish Hatchery
We observed a robin swallow a chum salmon fingerling
(about 4 cm in length) that it picked up along the shore of the rearing
channel
The robin then flew directly out of the channel by flying
out of a hole in the netting.

A few years back in the Quinault Valley, I observed a varied thrush
fly off with a salamander in its bill

In other birding news

Bob Wilkerson and survey crew yesterday observed a red-naped sapsucker
investigating a cavity in the Elwha Valley.
The bird did not remain at the cavity
