Ok... Kittitas county birds apparently don't know the difference between
ponderosa pine forests and shrub-steppe zones. First it was gray
flycatchers using sage/bitterbrush draws (they are still in these areas
if anybody is interested, email me, I have a couple of easy spots), this
morning I found a Lewis' Woodpecker sitting in a tall Bitterbrush on
Beacon ridge Rd, not a telephone pole even, it soon took off and flew
south to the Vantage Hwy. If we thought Gray flycatchers staying for
extended periods of time in Shrub-steppe was odd, this tops it... maybe
bitterbrush is the universal habitat shrub afterall, it not only serves
for the regular shrub-steppe species, but now gray flycatcher and Lewis'
woodpecker!
