Dear Tweeters,

I observed single Bank Swallows today at two locations in Skagit County. One was in Van Horn (east of Concrete) and the other was on Cockreham Island (east of Lyman). This species is scarce around here; it is regular only in a couple of locations, where they appear to breed (near Marblemount and up the Sauk River).

Swainson's Thrushes are calling and singing in the Upper Skagit Valley now.

Another fun sighting was of 8 Common Mergansers flying up the Skagit River valley near Lyman, right above Highway 20 actually, at dusk. I was wondering whether these birds might have done a float trip down the river by day, to return by dusk?

Good Birding!

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
