Alan and I take in the Woodland Park Zoo's celebration of IMBD every year to see
the banding demo and check up on newborn zoo animals (Sumatran tigers, this
year). Yesterday's demo was fabulous. Don Norman's skill and experience was
impressive and he was great with the viewers tossing off mind-boggling neo-
tropical migrant facts and statistics while being quick and sensitive to each
bird's stress level. It helped that the previous night's storm brought in 8
WILSON'S WARBLERS (we all got pretty good at determining whether the crown patch
was an A,B,C,D, E, or F.) Also a HERMIT THRUSH, a few ORANGE-CROWNED W., and a
BEWICK'S WREN were banded along with several fun residents like BC Chickadees and
Bushtits. Other migrants serenaded us from the trees and several W.Tanagers came
flashing through.

Great to read about all the migrants (and accidentals!) coming back.
