Late this afternoon while I was working on a project with Western
Pond Turtles at the South Puget Sound Wildlife Area I was happily
surprised to find a Western Kingbird flycatching along a waterway
that leads to the Lakewood Fish Hatchery. The kingbird only stayed
around for 10-15 minutes, long enough for a couple of nice photos.

There were a couple of other new arrivals joining the birds at this
wildlife area today. A Willow Flycatcher was flycatching from, you
guessed it, willows, on the backside of one of the ponds in the
fenced off section of the wildlife area, and a Savannah Sparrow was
singing on the back side of the property, trying to out-sing the Song
Sparrows that are so prevalent along the trails on the uphill side of
the wildlife area.

Here were the other birds I saw in the area today:

Red-tailed Hawk
American Crow
Barn Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Goldfinch
California Quail
Song Sparrow
House Finch
European Starling
Brown-headed Cowbird
Northern Flicker
Mallard
Red-winged Blackbird
Mourning Dove
Savannah Sparrow
Willow Flycatcher
Western Kingbird
Wilson's Warbler
Great Blue Heron
Brewer's Balckbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
Killdeer
Canada Goose
Black-headed Grosbeak
Black-capped Chickadee
Green Heron

It was a great day for birding!
