In the continuing saga of Wood Duck doings here on Long Lake (Thurston
County, southeast of Lacey), a female Wood Duck just appeared on the water
accompanied by ten (yes, 10!) tiny, fluffy young. I don't know if they came
from our Wood Duck box or from the neighboring woods. I know they won't all
survive, but many of them apparently do, as we sometimes have many adults
here. Right now, we have a few pairs plus at least three adult males that
don't seem to be paired up with any females.

Yesterday morning we had a Spotted Sandpiper on the dock.

Oh, the 10! above is enthusiasm. It doesn't mean 10 x 9 x 8 x . . . x 2 x
1.
