Hey Tweeters,

The conditions were perfect last night and this morning for migrant
watching, at least over my house; the night started out calm, then after
about 2:30am it began raining. I noticed large numbers of Swainson's
Thrushes calling, especially around midnight. This morning I woke up to a
Black-headed Grosbeak singing, then a few minutes later I heard a harsh
trilling. Even while I was still half asleep I thought to myself "that
sounds like a Chipping Sparrow." Moments later I looked out and saw it
perched on the neighbor's roof, and a in the afternoon it was chasing
another one (or vice versa). This was a new yard bird; I was wondering when
I would see them here as they breed not far to the south of my house.

Other birds in my yard were mostly common birds, but there were notable
numbers of several things. At least ten Wilson's Warblers were here in the
morning, three Townsend's Warblers were around all day along with three
Black-headed Grosbeaks and seven Western Tanagers. A Yellow Warbler and a
Myrtle Yellow-rumped showed up in the afternoon. Not a bad day!
