This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Wednesday,
May 21st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.


The feature bird is HUDSONIAN GODWIT.

Sightings for Wednesday, May 21st

The breeding plumaged male HUDSONIAN GODWIT was again seen in the West Field
at the Reifel Refuge. Also at the Refuge was a EURASIAN WIGEON.

At the foot of 96th St in Boundary Bay the following shorebirds were seen:
16 WHIMBREL, 1 RED KNOT, 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and many
small peeps.

Sightings for Tuesday, May 20th

At the Reifel Refuge a breeding plumaged HUDSONIAN GODWIT was present in the
West Field near the tower. Also offshore were 37 late SNOW GEESE.

At the foot of 104th St. in Boundary Bay was a single HOUSE WREN.

At the foot of 96th St. in Boundary Bay at "the Mansion" were 1 WILSON'S
PHALAROPE and 2 RED KNOTS.

In Mud Bay were 10 CASPIAN TERNS and 5 WHIMBREL. Nearby in a stubble field
were 8 AMERICAN PIPITS.

At the foot of 72nd St in Boundary Bay was a BANK SWALLOW present with other
swallows.

With the rainy weather today many migrant songbirds were widely reported
including WILSON'S, TOWNSEND'S, MACGILLIVARY'S, ORANGE-CROWNED and YELLOW
WARBLERS. Also BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, WESTERN TANAGERS, WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES
and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were also widely reported.
