Howdy,

With all my years of experience, you would think that I should know more
about gull plumages and ages. Maybe I'm just getting old!!

I believe that the California Gull is a four year gull. Therefore one would
expect to find the following plumages:

a) juvenal plumage, perhaps becoming first winter (first to second calendar
years)
b) first summer (second calendar year)
c) second winter (second to third calendar years)
d) second summer (third calendar year)
e) third winter (third to fourth calendar year)
f) adult (4+ calendar years)

Is that correct?

I've posted five photos of California's I found today. I would much
appreciate if readers would comment on the ages of these birds - it may help
clear the fuzziness from my brain. The pics are at

Thanks
