Subject: strange flicker

I reported earlier to tweeters a female flicker that came into our yard
occasionally that had extensive cream-colored markings all over its back and
wings. Just now another female appeared that I have never seen before. It
had just cream-colored bases to several secondaries on each side (quite
symmetrical patches on each wing about 4 cm in diameter) and a cream-colored
distal (tip) half of one tail feather on the right side. I wouldn't be
surprised if this bird was related to the other one, which I haven't seen
for several months.

As soon as it got to the suet feeder another female (presumably the resident
nesting in the ravine) flew at it and chased it out of the yard. The odd
bird must have been just passing through.
