This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Thursday,
May 22nd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.
The feature birds are HUDSONIAN GODWIT and FRANKLIN'S GULL.
Sightings for Thursday, May 22nd
For the third consecutive day the breeding plumaged male HUDSONIAN GODWIT
was seen in the West Field of the Reifel Refuge.
The following birds were observed at Blackie Spit:
1 FRANKLIN'S GULL with 5 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 PARASITIC JEAGERS harassing 65
COMMON TERNS, 12 WHIMBREL and 4 PURPLE MARTINS.
In Tsawwassen a single SNOW GOOSE was observed with a flock of CANADA GEESE
along 56th St.
Sightings for Wednesday, May 21st
The breeding plumaged male HUDSONIAN GODWIT was again seen in the West Field
at the Reifel Refuge. Also at the Refuge was a EURASIAN WIGEON.
At the foot of 96th St in Boundary Bay the following shorebirds were seen:
16 WHIMBREL, 1 RED KNOT, 1 LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and many
small peeps.
