Greetings,
This afternoon after work I decided to swing by Nisqually Refuge for a brief visit. I walked part way to McAllister Creek and down to Twin Barns. Among the most interesting sightings were a pair of Wilson's Phalarope in the shallow pond a bit west of headquarters and north of the road/trail to McAllister Creek. Also in this area were Sora, Virginia Rail, Cinnamon and Blue-winged Teal, Spotted Sandpipers and a female Hooded Merganser with 9 young. There were a couple of Wood Ducks and a Bullocks Oriole near the Twin Barns, and most of the expected passerines were around.
Yesterday evening there was a Bank Swallow in with the many Violet Green Swallows hanging around our place in NW Thurston Co. A nice bird for this area, but I suspect more regular than local sightings would suggest. Good luck, and make the best of the long weekend.
