Greetings!
I birded the area from the intersection of Old Hwy 8 & Rock Cr Rd up three miles to the burnt out Bob Imrie place.
Western Kingbirds were everywhere & I found 1 on a nest & another pair building a nest. The other fun finds were Olive-sided Flycatcher, Western Wood Pewee, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Say's Phoebe, Warbling Vireo, Lazuli Bunting (M singing), Purple Finch (pair, M singing), American Goldfinch, many Bullock's Orioles (2 nests), pair American Kestrel (tending nest), Rock Wren, Canyon Wren, California Quail (many seen & heard various vocalizations), Chukar, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrow, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow, Cliff Swallow, Common Raven, American Robin, Red-winged Blackbird, Western Meadowlark, Brown-headed Cowbird, Canada Geese on reservoir, & 1 warbler of yellow color which was too quick & too far for me to ID.
The piece de resistance however was the Golden Eagle nest approx 1 km from the road with 2 of the most beautiful creamy white chicks & both adults nearby & giving flyovers.
It's rattlesnake season so watch your step whenever dismounting or entering your vehicle. I had one slide past within 18 inches of my feet while videotaping the GOEA. It was a 4' with a dozen rattle segments.
Yours for better birding! (:>}
