This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Friday,
May 23rd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature bird is GREAT EGRET.

Sightings for Friday, May 23rd

In Pitt Meadows today there was an adult GREAT EGRET found at the first
sharp bend of Rennie Road. Also seen here was 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD and 3
TURKEY VULTURES. Along the Grant Narrows dyke many migrants were found
including 1 CHIPPING SPARROW and 1 BULLOCK'S ORIOLE.

At Blackie Spit there were a pair of PURPLE MARTINS and 75 WHIMBREL.

At nearby 96th St in Boundary Bay there were 35 WHIMBREL.

Along the Iona Island Causeway there was 1 WESTERN KINGBIRD.

Sightings for Thursday, May 22nd

For the third consecutive day the breeding plumaged male HUDSONIAN GODWIT
was seen in the West Field of the Reifel Refuge.

The following birds were observed at Blackie Spit:
1 FRANKLIN'S GULL with 5 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 PARASITIC JEAGERS harassing 65
COMMON TERNS, 12 WHIMBREL and 4 PURPLE MARTINS.

In Tsawwassen a single SNOW GOOSE was observed with a flock of CANADA GEESE
along 56th St.

At Iona Island Sewage Ponds there were 6 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 5 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS.
