RARE BIRD ALERT for a TENNESEE WARBLER and a possible PHAINOPEPLA!

The feature bird is GREAT EGRET.

Sightings for Saturday, May 24th

RARE BIRD ALERT! A bird identified as a male PHAINOPEPLA was seen for a few
minutes at 3:15pm this afternoon on a wire in front of 2410 Southwest Marine
Drive in Vancouver. Confirmation is requested as it would be a 1st for the
Province. A subsequent search later in the day failed to turn the bird up.
It may be worthwhile looking in the nearby Parks or at the Golf Course below
the houses as it was seen flying in that general direction.

RARE BIRD ALERT! A male TENNESSE WARBLER was observed in the morning on the
southwest side of Queen Elizabeth Park near the Golf Course Washrooms.
Other highlights amongst the hoards of migrant passerines were 2 CHIPPING
SPARROWS.

In Pitt Meadows the GREAT EGRET was again reported. Look for the bird along
the shoreline from the dyke near the first large bend along Rannie Road.

At the Reifel Refuge 3 WESTERN KINGBIRDS were reported from the foreshore
along the West Dyke Trail. Also at the refuge was 1 male EURASIAN WIGEON, a
family of SANDHILL CRANES, 1 BRANT, 20 SNOW GEESE, 1 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE, 20 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS and many migrant
passerines.

A flock of 6 SANDHILL CRANES were reported from Highway 10 and 112th St. in
Delta.

At the Iona Island Sewage Ponds were 1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 1 BANK SWALLOW
and nearby on the Sea Island side of the Causeway were 2 WESTERN KINGBIRDS.

At Burnaby Lake was 1 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and 1 GREEN HERON.

Sightings for Friday, May 23rd

In Pitt Meadows there was an adult GREAT EGRET found at the first sharp bend
of Rannie Road. Also seen here was 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD and 3 TURKEY VULTURES.
Along the Grant Narrows dyke many migrants were found including 1 CHIPPING
SPARROW and 1 BULLOCK'S ORIOLE.

At Blackie Spit there were a pair of PURPLE MARTINS and 75 WHIMBREL.

At nearby 96th St in Boundary Bay there were 35 WHIMBREL.

Along the Iona Island Causeway there was 1 WESTERN KINGBIRD.
