Hi Tweeters,

I walked the path along the Snohomish River this evening to the bridge to
Spencer Island. The highlights were a flock of Cedar Waxwings (at least 7
birds) where the path turns along the slough, a Sharp-Shinned Hawk? (had
wedged tail, but seemed big) and another all brown-chested hawk, preening so
much it was hard to see, on the power lines across the river from the path.
Also saw a male Red-Winged Blackbird on the road into the park area and a
Great Blue Heron along the river as well as some grebes. There were lots of
Cliff Swallows at the Spencer Island bridge and a pair of Mallards. Also an
Osprey overhead, and a pair of birds I couldn't identify in a tree fairly
near the waxwings, and a brown bird I saw briefly, but may have been a
female Lazuli Bunting. The pair were about Junco-sized, the male dark all
over, dark slate/almost purple tone, and the female a much lighter brown,
snuggling close together on a branch (very cute!). Sorry about the iffy ID
on these, but perhaps those more experienced will know what these are.
