Hi Tweeters,

I just got a phone call from a friend in Yakima who was at Wapato Point on
Lake Chelan over the weekend. He said he and his wife saw a California
Condor perched in a tree near the lake a couple of mornings ago. He thought
he was about 200 yards away from it when he was looking at it.

He isn't an avid birder but he has been on birding trips with me and he is a
good observer. He also has a Sibley guide, which at least shows interest.
He also said he did a class project in fifth grade on Turkey Vultures, which
included a big display board with photos, graphs, etc., so he is familiar
with Turkey Vultures.

He described this bird as over 30 inches from its talons to head as it was
sitting on the branch, not counting the tail. He said the head and neck
were red and compared that to Turkey Vultures, which have only a red head
with the neck feathered.

By the time he got dressed to go get a closer look, the bird had flown.

This just adds to the intrigue.
