Tweets - there were an amazing 18 people this morning, so we split into
two groups going in opposite directions around the loop. Strangely, one
group had a very good day and the other group had a very slow day. The
morning was pretty warm, and began overcast and absolutely windless.
After about 9:00, the wind began to pick up, and there was a bit of
clearing. The wind increased quite a bit, actually, before we were done.
The combined highlights are as follows:

Common Loon One flew N over lake
Green Heron Several sightings, at least 2 birds
Wood Duck Many sightings, incl. F with 10 small 'lings
Ring-necked Duck Male at RC ponds - 1st May sighting ever
Virginia Rail One SEEN well from boardwalk, one heard
Red-breasted Sapsucker 1 near start of boardwalk
Hairy Woodpecker Seen in same tree as RBSA
Pileated Woodpecker Bruce Jones had one early in the parking lot
Band-tailed Pigeon At least 7 seen
Mourning Dove 1 in East Meadow
Western Wood-Pewee 1 seen, 1 heard
Pacific-slope Flycatcher 1 at S end of dog area
Willow Flycatcher Many back, singing
Red-eyed Vireo 2 heard
BLACK SWIFT 2 seen over slough early
Bushtit Had a family with ~3 fluffy young. Cute.
Swainson's Thrush One heard singing, 1 seen
Cedar Waxwing Ubiquitous - 40+ seen
Western Tanager 1-2 males
Bullock's Oriole 1-2 males
Western Meadowlark 1-2 E meadow. Latest spring sighting.

Collectively, we had a 5 woodpecker day, with Downy and Flicker also seen.

Very few warblers, with only 1-2 Wilson's, a handful of Common
Yellowthroat, and maybe a heard Yellow.

The most amazing sight was 3 LONG-TAILED WEASELS playing amongst the logs
in the reforestation corridor between the parking lots. We also saw
another weasel along the slough, and a RACCOON on the far side of the
slough, and several Cottontail Rabbits.

Virginia Rail and Hooded Merganser have now both been seen/heard every
week of the year on a cumulative basis - both filled in that last gap
today. There are now 25 species that have been seen in all 52 weeks.
Several others are close.

I hope everyone saw Kevin Li's note about PURPLE MARTIN at the north end
of Lake Sammamish. That location is within my count area, so I am adding
his sighting to my records. I went over to East Lake Samm Parkway, but
was unable to spot a PUMA today.

Oh - and last week, Bruce Jones had a VESPER SPARROW on his way out - he
didn't get around to letting me know for 25 hours! I believe that is the
first confirmed sighting of that species since the 1970's.

The day list was 64 species. The Vesper Sparrow, Purple Martin, Black
Swift, Willow Flycatcher, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, and Red-eyed Vireo
bring the year list to 120 species.
