A Tropical Kingbird was on the wire above evergreen trees in front of a
brown
ranch-style house on Tokeland Rd. 1.4 miles south of the Shoalwater
Casino
and/or .8 of a mile south of the Tradewinds sign. The house has a
Pacific County
"for sale" sign in front. I had spotted this bird and watched it for a
several minutes.
It moved around, disappeared and reappeared at the original place on the
wire
then disappeared again. Connie and John Sidles drove up while I was
searching
for it and decided to help me look. They pulled into the next driveway
to turn
around, and John noticed that the north end of the roof of the house was
on fire.
He yelled "Fire" went to the notify the house's occupant then got a
garden house
and sprayed water onto the roof. He got the active, red flames
extinguished.
It took the rural fire department some time to get there, but with all
the noise
of the people, vehicles and fire equipment, the kingbird had disappeared

somewhere behind the ranch-style house. Hope it returns for other to
enjoy.
