This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Saturday,
November 1st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are: BARN SWALLOW, PALM WARBLER and HUDSONIAN GODWIT.

Sightings for November 1st

Near the southern end of 96th St was a strange looking BARN SWALLOW which
may possibly be of an Eurasian subspecies. Confirmation and photos are
greatly desired. In this same spot in the short grass field were 5 juvenile
PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS.

At the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty in the Compensation Lagoon was 1 HUDSONIAN
GODWIT, 6+ MARBLED GODWITS and over 50 BLACK TURNSTONES. At the base of the
Jetty on the south side was the WILLET.

In the hedgerow at the corner of 33A Ave and 34th St was the immature PALM
WARBLER.

Nearby at the base of the Coal Port Jetty was a juvenile PACIFIC GOLDEN
PLOVER amongst many BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER.

In the hedgerow along 72nd Street near the Turf Farm was an ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER.

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY was again present at 4126 River Rd. West in Ladner.

Sightings for October 31

The WESTERN SCRUB JAY continues at 4126 River Rd. W in Ladner. This house
is west of 41B & River Rd. Birders may access the property on the left-hand
side. Proceed to the back of the property to view the bird.

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was again seen with 6 MARBLED GODWITS at the Tsawwassen
Jetty compensation lagoon. Also reported from this location was a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR. The WILLET was observed at the base of the Jetty.

A RED KNOT was reported between 88th & the Mansion.

Three BRANT were at Beach Grove Lagoon.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was sighted near the bridge at the Maplewood CA.

October 30

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was again seen with 6 MARBLED GODWITS at the Tsawwassen
Jetty compensation lagoon.

The WESTERN SCRUB JAY was seen near 41B and River Rd. W in Ladner

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, 5 SANDHILL
CRANES, and a SWAMP SPARROW near the tower.

October 29

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was with 7 MARBLED GODWITS at the compensation lagoon.

October 28

An immature PALM WARBLER was found in a hedgerow that runs along 34th near
the intersection of 33A Ave near Brunswick Point area. In the field nearby
was a large flock of 35-40 LEAST SANDPIPERS one of which was a partial
albino with white outer tail feathers.

At the compensation lagoon there were 6 MARBLED GODWITS and 1 juvenile
HUDSONIAN GODWIT.

October 27

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen with 6 MARBLED GODWITS at the compensation
lagoon.

At the mansion at Boundary Bay was a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER.
