"Unfortunately, as I was trying to sneak up for a closer peek, a couple
with
a dog drove by slowly to see what I was looking at. The bean geese took
fright and up they went, the only two geese out of a flock of hundreds
(or
was it billions?) to be so affected by a dog in a car (or possibly by me

peeking at them)."

The same sort of event happened again at 2 PM. A thousand waterfowl in
one place and the only two that fly away are Mr. and Mrs.? Bean. They
certainly come off as healthy, wild birds, a long way from home.

Great find Sullivans.

My next and last stop was the Tokeland Marina. The Tropical Kingbird
was not at all shy, being active, and easy to find on the power lines.
One wonders what attraction there is here for this bird who is also a
long ways from home. Someone should put him on a bus to Patagonia.

There were Willets and Whimbrels at the Marina, but Godwits were there
none. With the tide coming in, and the sun going down I figured it was
just a matter of time. I stuck it out till almost 5:30 but the only new
acquaintance I made was a Red-necked Phalarope foraging in the mess of
vegetation caught against the dock, right beside me. Those little guys
sure are buoyant.

Good Birding.
Bean Geese don't come around very often.
