Roland,
I don't know whether you were serious or not, considering the recent postings about the use of the alpha codes. Can you imagine the confusion if birders abbreviated NOT with the alpha codes, but with the AOU species numbers. So, instead of EUST (european starling) one might write "493", or, for belted kingfisher, not BEKI, but "390"

For example, yesterday at Bowermen Basin I saw two 171.1's and at Tokeland a 251.0 and a 446.0!

Check the banding lab site if you're confused... <http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/manual/aspeclst.htm> http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/manual/aspeclst.htm

Nancy, If you can't find them from http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/manual/aspeclst.htm here they are...European Starling, Belted kingfisher, Barn swallow, Vaux's swift.

Hi everyone,

Will someone please tell me what species are the following: EUST, BEKI, BARS and VASW. I sure don't know these codes!

Thanks in advance,
