Subject: Pink-footed Geese?

Hi tweets,

>From just looking at the photos I'm not sure that one
can really say whether these are bean geese or pink
footed. One thing that troubles me for jumping in the
pink-footed camp is that the feet and legs are orange
in the photos and don't appear pink:

compare to Pink-footed Goose:

and Bean Goose:

The legs appear to match Bean Goose from these photos
much better than they do Pink-footed. The brightness
of the color in the bill also appears to be better for
Bean Goose from these photos. Bare part color is of
course subject to differences in maturity as well.
Unfortunately since the photos were taken on print
film judging color is all VERY subjective. Prints
from negatives are subject to the color levels and hue
which the developer thinks will look right whereas
with slides this is not an issue.

Perhaps sometime in the next couple of days I'll have
time to do a web search for some other photos to look
at more of the range of variation in Pink-footed.
Unfortunately I won't be able to get away to see the
birds for another 2.5 weeks.
