This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Tuesday,
November 4th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are BLUE JAY, VESPER SPARROW and PALM WARBLER.

Sightings for November 4th

A BLUE JAY was reported from 1816 Larson Rd in North Vancouver. The bird is
best seen is in the backyard where it is coming to a feeder. This can be
viewed from Wolfe Street which is directly behind the property.
This might be the same bird reported in October from the nearby Lonsdale
area.

A VESPER SPARROW was found at Iona Island in the north east corner of the
North East Pond. Also present was 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER and 1 LEAST SANDPIPER.

The PALM WARBLER was again found at the corner of 33A Ave and 34th St near
Brunswick Point. At the south end of 34th St was a flock of over 50 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS. In the same area were 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, an
AMERICAN KESTREL and an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER.

Seen at the base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty on the gravel road was a
flock of 19 SNOW BUNTINGS and on the shoreline was the WILLET. At the
Compensation Lagoon were 7 MARBLED GODWITS.

At the south end of 96th St there were 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 2
PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS on the short grass field. At this same location was
the immature Barn Swallow. Photos or video is highly desired for documenting
this bird as it appears to be of the Eurasian subspecies.

In East Vancouver in an area called Renfrew Ravine located between 22nd Ave
and 29th Ave was an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW.

At Ambleside Park in West Vancouver a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found.

Sightings for November 3rd

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continues to be seen in the yard of 4126 River Road in
Ladner.

The PALM WARBLER was again found in the hedgerow near the intersection of
33A Avenue and 34th Street near Brunswick Point. Further down 34th Street
near the end of the road were 2 SNOW BUNTINGS and 3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS.

The WILLET, 4 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and 9 SNOW BUNTINGS were reported along
the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

The AMERICAN KESTREL was again reported along Delta Port Way near Arthur
Drive.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was found between 80th and 88th Street in Delta.

At the foot of 72nd Street was a flock of 4 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

Near the foot of 96th Street in a short grass field was a flock of
4 PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS.

In an usual location was an AMERICAN DIPPER found in Van Dusen Gardens in
Vancouver.

In a late report another AMERICAN DIPPER was located at the Noon's Creek
Hatchery in Port Coquitlum.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was reported from the Capilano River area of
North Vancouver.
