Since most of the northwestern turkey vultures are well on their way south,
it's time to finish up the fall migration reports. There are always a very
few who hang around here and there in the winter, but not many. Following
are the most recent fall reports from Washington and British Columbia:

September
29 - 1 over the summit of Swauk Pass

October
03 - the last airport bird (1) seen at Campbell River, B.C. (a good year,
quantity-wise)
07 - 20ish between Olalla and Port Orchard
08 - "more" between Olalla and Port Orchard
09 - 1 at Westport
10 - 30 flying over the Woodland Park Zoo; 50 over the Elwha River then
streaming off towards Port Angeles; 1 over Point Roberts
11 - 6 flying low over the I-5/Hwy 101 interchange in Olympia; 2 at the
Nisqually NWR; 23 circling over a horse barn near Castle Rock/Vader; 7 over
Jericho Park in Vancouver, B.C.; 15 near Delta, B.C.
12 - 1 over Beacon Hill; 5 checking out several hundred hungry gulls on the
Key Peninsula
13 - 7 circling high over St. Martin's College campus; 3 over the Roberts
Bank Jetty Lagoon, B.C.
14 - 3 hopping about dead pink salmon on the Sultan River
15 - 19 over the Vancouver Harbour Heliport, B.C.
18 - 1 adult circling Tacoma with a trio of crows hassling it; 1 at the
Skokomish River Delta; 1 at Potlatch SP, 1 at South Victor
23 - 2 in the Codd Island area of Pitt Meadows, B.C.; a "flock" near Black
Creek on Vancouver Island, B.C.
24 - 1 flew over the shoulder of Mt. Norman on South Pender Island
28 - 1 in Tokeland

Wintering reports of turkey vultures will be happily received! Have fun on
the not-too-distant Christmas Counts. And thanks, as always, for the
