Poking through my files, I see that I was referencing an older
version of the Thurston checklist. The current version lists Spotted
Sandpiper as uncommon in summer, rare in winter. That's not my
experience, but there is obviously more data in that checklist than I
personally have. In any case, I have a slightly rumpled copy of the
current list I'd be happy to send you. Or, you can get one at the
local Wild Birds Unlimited next time you're through, or check the
Black Hills Audubon website: http://www.blackhillsaudubon.org
