Sightings for November 11

In Kelowna, a PACIFIC LOON and an EARED GREBE were at the yacht club, which
can be viewed from the pay parking lot at the foot of Queensway Ave (CC,DW).

An adult MEW GULL was in Mud Bay, at the foot of Francis Ave in Kelowna
(CC,DW).

Along the Salmon Arm Foreshore was a SWAMP SPARROW, a SNOW BUNTING and a
DUNLIN (DC).

At the S. end of Swan Lake in Vernon, 2 female RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were
with large numbers of COMMON MERGANSERS and a late LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was
at Kin Beach in Okanagan Landing (DC).


Sightings for November 9

On Kelowna's Westside, a CANYON WREN was discovered in a backyard at 2800
Lakeridge Dr. in Lakeview Heights (EF).

The possible first winter ICELAND GULL was again seen on Okanagan Lake in
Penticton in front of the big peach (MG). Also there was a first year
GLAUCOUS GULL (MG).

At Rotary Marshes in Kelowna, 3 SNOW BUNTINGS (HV) and the continuing
LAPLAND LONGSPUR were reported on Nov 8 (CC,RT).

At Sutherland Park, in Kelowna's North End, a second year MEW GULL was seen
(HV). Birders should also keep an eye open for a dark backed gull seen there
on the 8th. From the description, Slaty-backed Gull may be a possibility.

Four DUNLIN remain in Mud Bay, at the foot of Francis Ave in Kelowna (HV)
and 2 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were discovered in a weedy field along K.L.O Rd
in Kelowna, across from Emacculatta High School (HV).


Sightings for November 7

A first winter ICELAND GULL was found with a large number of assorted gulls
on the Okanagan Lake waterfront in Penticton (CC,SG). The bird was on the
beach in front of the big peach.

Seen from the pull-out on Hwy 97, at the S. end of Vaseux Lake were 2 imm.
PACIFIC LOONS (CC,SG). The adult PACIFIC LOON in breeding plumage continues
N. of Osoyoos, on the E. dyke of the Okanagan River, S. of Road 22 (CC,SG).
Seen at this location on Nov 6 was a male SURF SCOTER LH,GH).

Seen from the blind at the end of the boardwalk at Vaseux Lake was the male
EURASIAN WIGEON. The bird was with a flock of AMERICAN WIGEON (CC,SG). On
the sandbar at the N. end of Vaseux Lk were 3 KILLDEER (CC,SG). Observed
from the Vaseux Lake Campground was an EARED GREBE (CC,SG).

Along May St. in the Trout Ck area of Summerland, the wintering LEWIS'S
WOODPECKER was seen, while another was found along Black Sage Road, between
Oliver and Osoyoos (CC,SG). Also along Black Sage Road were 12 WESTERN
BLUEBIRDS (CC,SG).

At Elkink Ranch, along Hwy 3, W. of Osoyoos, were about 10 CHUKAR (CC,SG).
