Hi Tweets....I am a COASST participant ((Coastal Observation and Seabird
Survey Team) in Ocean Shores with our beach being the section from the North
Jetty north to the Marine View Dr. access. We do it in two segments and try
to cover each segment twice a month (though lately it has been more often
once a month). The jetty to Beach St access is just over 1/2 mile, then
Beach St to Marine View Dr. is a bit over 1 & 1/8 mile.

Our most recent survey was on 11/2, the Beach St. to Marine View Dr.
stretch, with a total of 41 dead birds found. Of that number, I believe 35
were Northern Fulmars...if my memory serves me on the total. We don't know
why, we just know this is the time of year we see large numbers of dead
fulmars on the outer beaches. My best guess is they get beat up pretty badly
by the storms and are unable to feed. Most appear to be very thin.

I am not a scientist, just an observer.
