After enjoying a visiting No. Pygmy Owl last week,
this morning we were treated to an immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK in our backyard. After our covey of quail had
stuffed themselves from the food that we had thrown
out for them, a very large bird dropped out of the
trees and landed on the slope just outside our kitchen
window. The brown, heavily-streaked accipitor flashed
a brilliant white supercilium in the sunlight. This is
one impressive looking raptor.

Instead of feeding the quail, the Gos was obviously
there to feed on the quail. Apparently, the quail
feathers that I saw in the backyard a couple of days
ago are a result of the Gos coming into our yard to
partake of "chicken dinners".
