This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for
Tuesday,
November 11th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores
in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are WESTERN SCRUB-JAY, BLUE JAY and VESPER SPARROW
..


Sightings for November 11th

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY was again seen in the yard of 4126 River Road
West in Ladner (Delta).

A BLUE JAY was found in a yard at 850 W. 19th Street in North
Vancouver. This is likely the same bird that has been seen in the
general area for the past month.

The VESPER SPARROW was again seen just east of the North-east Pond at
Iona Island. Also in the same area was 1 SAVANNAH SPARROW and 2
WILSON'S SNIPES. On the North Outer Pond was a pair of RING-NECKED
DUCKS.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was found on the north dyke trail near the
viewing tower at the Reifel Refuge, Delta.

In the Guildford area of Surrey a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported from
Holly Park Lane, located at 104th Avenue and 144th Street. Nearby at
Green Timbers Park was a HERMIT THRUSH.

Along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty was the flock of 9 SNOW BUNTINGS, the
long staying WILLET, and at the Compensation Lagoon was a flock of 7
MARBLED GODWITS.

An EARED GREBE was reported from the end of the White Rock Pier.

At the south end of 96th Street in the short grass field was the long
staying pair of PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS.

At the base of the Coal Port Jetty was a flock of 3 RED KNOTS and 1
WESTERN SANDPIPER amongst large numbers of DUNLIN and BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS.


Sightings for November 10th

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continues to be found at 4126 River Road W in
Ladner.


Sightings for November 9th

A flock of 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were relocated along the Serpentine
River approximately 700-800 metres upstream from the railway bridge at
the river mouth on Mud Bay, Surrey.

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continues at 4126 River Road in Ladner.

The WILLET and 12 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen along the gravel road on the
south side of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

There were still 2 PACIFIC GOLDEN- PLOVERS in the short grass fields
opposite 4044 96th St in Delta.

At Terra Nova (NW corner of Lulu Island, Richmond) were 2 SHORT-EARED
OWLS.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE continues to be seen in Ambleside Park
in West Vancouver


Sightings for November 8th

An adult winter plumaged SLATY-BACKED GULL was again found in the
Vancouver Landfill in Delta, which is an off-limits area to the
public. Birders should watch out for this bird in the surrounding
fields.

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continues to be present at 4126 River Road W. in
Ladner.

A BLUE JAY was again reported from 1816 Larson Rd in North Vancouver.
The bird is best seen in the backyard where it is coming to a feeder.
This can be viewed from Wolfe Street which is directly behind the
property.

The flock of 4 MARBLED GODWITS continues to be seen at the
Compensation Lagoon along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty. Nearby at the
boat launch on the south side of the jetty were a flock of 15 SNOW
BUNTINGS, and at the base of the jetty was the WILLET.

At the south end of 96th St 2 PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS were again
present on the short grass field.
