This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Friday, November 14th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Surrey.

The featured bird is BLUE JAY.


Sightings for November 14th

The BLUE JAY found in the yard at 850 W. 19th Street in North
Vancouver was again present. The bird is most often observed between
10 and 11 AM.

At the base of the Roberts Bank Coal Port Jetty, Delta, was 1 MARBLED
GODWIT amongst many BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.

The following were all reported from the Reifel Refuge in Delta: 1
WESTERN TANAGER, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 1 HERMIT
THRUSH, 1 BARN SWALLOW, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1-2 SWAMP SPARROWS and 3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS.


Sightings for November 13th

The 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were again found in Mud Bay near the
railway bridge at the mouth of the Serpentine River on Mud Bay in
Surrey.

Along the Tsawwassen ferry jetty the WILLET was again reported. There
are still up to 6 MARBLED GODWITS at the compensation lagoon on the
jetty.

At the Reifel Sanctuary, a very late WESTERN TANAGER was reported
from the north-east corner of the East Dyke Trail.


Sightings for November 12th

A BLUE JAY was found in a yard at 850 W. 19th Street in North
Vancouver. This is likely the same bird that has been widely reported
in the area for the past month.

An immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in Watershed Park in North
Delta.

The VESPER SPARROW was again reported at the NE corner of the
NE sewage pond at Iona Island. The pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS were
again reported from the outer pond. Nearby on the Fraser River was 1
WESTERN GULL.
