In our yard there is a tree by the river that the goldfinch set in when
not gobbling down thistle at our feeders. In the same tree the
kingfisher often perches above eyeing the river for fish. Yesterday the
kingfisher snatched one of the goldfinch and flew off. In my book on
birds of North America it lists the diet for a kingfisher as tadpoles,
frogs, salamanders, fish, etc. but nothing about eating birds. Has
anyone heard of a kingfisher feeding on birds?
