Hi tweets,

Sorry for the late report. Saturday, November 15, I
birded Whidbey Island leading a field trip for
Pilchuck Audubon Society. For the most part we had
dry weather with only some wind to deal with until the
end of the day. We had ~70 species for the day with
some nice birds and a few gaping holes (Canada Goose
and Steller's Jay for example). The highlight was a
second winter GLAUCOUS GULL at Penn Cove on the beach
with a flock of around 200 or so Black Turnstones and
Surfbirds as well as the requisite Glaucous-winged x
Western mutts. We observed the bird at about 20 yards
for 10 minutes before heading back to the warmth of
the car and lunch. The overall light color and large
size of the bird made it stand out. Subsequent
observations of the clean two-toned bill and frosty
wing tips confirmed our original suspicions.
